raising awareness for women's heart health
If you would have asked Lucy what she loves most in her life she would tell you that it is her family above everything else. However, there’s a new passion unfolding for this busy mom, wife, and entrepreneur… it’s the Labor of Love she feels compelled to. The hope and passion for this calling is to educate and provide financial assistance for other women, specifically younger mother’s, in need of cardiovascular care.
Lucy’s life, and her family’s, would forever change after a trip to the Emergency Department in July of 2016. Lucy was diagnosed with severe Systolic Congestive Heart Failure (CHF); Cardiomyopathy and Pulmonary Embolism. This diagnosis means a lot of monitoring, many doctor’s appointments, medication management, and eventually the possibility of a heart transplant… all of these things on top of her already busy lifestyle.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEART FAILURE
- SHORTNESS OF BREATH, ESPECIALLY WHEN LYING DOWN
- FATIGUE
- COUGHING OR WHEEZING
- SWELLING IN YOUR ANKLES, LEGS, AND FEET
- WEIGHT GAIN/LOSS OF GREATER THAN 5LBS IN A WEEK - DIFFICULTY FOCUSING
This true Labor of Love comes from knowing that so many women, especially young mothers, do not take care of themselves. “Mom’s take care of everyone else… not themselves.” So, Lucy’s vision and mission is to empower young mothers to listen to their bodies and get the care they may need through the Lucy’s Labor of Love Fund in association with the Sanford Health Foundation. This fund will be a resource for women across the region providing education about cardiovascular conditions and to provide financial assistance to those in need of cardiovascular care.
